Starting a New Life

[Kairi Hill]

"Ok, I know it's around here somewhere," a girl of 12, Kairi Hill said peeking out from behind a bush. She was looking for the lab and not having any luck at all. Kairi was supposed to be getting her first Pokemon today. She was to be a Coordinator just like her mother was at her age. That is if she could figure out where that lab of Professor Crow's was at.

His lab was behind a lot of trees so Kairi was having a hard time finding where it was at. She was lost big time. And there was no one around to ask for durations. Just then though Kairi slipped and fell down a hill. Once she hit the bottom she was all covered in mud and wet grass. "Ah!" Kairi cried getting up and shaking mud off of her,"This is just not my day." She sighed.

She decided that maybe she'd just turn around and head back home and take a shower and get herself clean. After all it would be very rude to meet Professor Crow looking like this. "Now which way did I come from now?" The girl wondering scratching her head. "Great! I'm totually lost now! Someone help me!" She screamed very loudly to no one. Since there was no one there at all to hear her.

Kairi just sit down and drank a bottle of juice. She was getting tried. "I hate walking!" Kairi conplainned shaking her fist at the air. Kairi then got up and started walking again. She really wanted to get her Pokemon and start her journey before nightfall. She noticed that it was already starting to get kinda late in the evening now. "Just great!" Kairi said rolling her eyes,"What else can go wrong!" A apple fell from a tree and hit her on the head,"Ah! I just had to ask didn't I?" Everything then went black.

Dimitri scowled down at the young girl who was obviously lost. Of course she had to come bug him as he slept! He leaned back against the tree, settling himself to be more comfortable on the branch, his silent demeanor and dark cloths allowing him to blend in perfectly with the tree. The young man, appearing to be around nineteen years of age, continued to glare at her with slitted amber eyes.

There! Just where she had stepped, he had strategically placed a banana peel. Maybe now she'll pass out and I can relax... Of course, the gods of luck despised him so, and she merely got up and started tramping around even louder than before! He hissed in frustration. I know...Wait for it...wait for it...Now! The moment she walked under his tree, he dropped an apple on the top of her head, successfully knocking her unconscious. "Thank goodness..." he murmured to himself, settling back to close his eyes and get some well-deserved sleep!

Of course, fate wasn't going to let that happen. "Dimitri! Dimitri!" The young man immediately recognized the voice of his twin brother, Xavier, and groaned. Why did he have to be so close to such a goodie-two-shoes? Xavier stopped and looked up at his mirror image. Same shoulder-length blond hair tied back at the nape of the neck, same bright golden eyes, same tanned skin. Xavier shook his head at his brother. "Dimitri, that wasn't nice," he waggled a disapproving finger in his direction. "Look at her! It's obvious she's lost. I bet she's a new trainer to get her first pokemon!" he squealed at the idea of helping her. He suddenly became serious again. "Now, you have to help me get her back." Dimitri shook his head, chuckling slightly. Yes, that was his brother all right. He easily jumped down from the tree.

"I'll take her feet, you take her arms." With that, he grabbed her ankles, and Xavier grabbed her arms, and, lifting her middle off the ground, they headed for the lab.

"Ah!" Kairi groaned waking up. Everything at first looked a little blurry,"Where am I?" The girl wondered. When her vision became clear she saw that she was in front of the Pokemon lab,"Huh? How did I get here?" Kairi wondered. Everything was confusing her. She didn't understand what was going on here. She checked her bag,"Hey! All my food's gone! Damn it! Whoever helped me must have stolen my food. Must have been a Pokemon or something."

Kairi got up feeling very dizzy and light headed from what had happened to her eariler. Maybe Professor Crow could help her out here. Maybe after her head stopped pounding he'd let her use his bathroom to wash up before she left.

Kairi had a very big bump on her head. She was very lucky not to have gotten brain damage. Kairi had always had a very soft head. It always seemed like she got hurt very easy. "I hope a ghost Pokemon wasn't what helped me," Kairi thought. She shook at the thought. Ghost Pokemon were the one type of Pokemon that she couldn't stand at all. Anyway she walked up to the lab doors holding her head painfully and rung the door bell. Kairi then stood back, still holding her head in pain as she waited for an answer.

The door was flung open almost immediately. "Hi!" squealed Xavier, the Smeargle peering out from behind his legs. "You must be the new trainer!" He opened up the door for her, revealing a white room with a well-used desk covered in burn marks. A locked door leading to another room remained closed to the right. Perched on a bookshelf was Xavier's other pokemon, a Chatot. And, of course, leaning in a corner was his brother, almost completely hidden by shadows. Of course. The annoying girl was back. The young man scowled, fingering the black band around his bicep in irritation. He had decided not to put on his white Lab Assistant's lab coat; too troublesome. The Dusclops wandering nearby glanced up at her master briefly, sensing his irritation, before going back to whatever mischief making was happening today.

Xavier smiled warmly at the girl in the doorway. "I'm Xavier, and this is my brother, Dimitri! We're two of Professor Crow's Lab Assistants. The Professor is out right now, so he's having us watch the lab!" He giggled happily. "This is Rembrandt, or Rem, as we call him," he indicated the Smeargle, "And Chatter," The Chatot flapped it's wings and squawked briefly, "And Winchester, or Win," he indicated the Dusclops, who continued ignoring him. "And..." Xavier looked around. "I was sure Smog was here a moment ago, too...Oh well!" he grinned.

"So, your here for your first pokemon, right?" Xavier questioned as he rummaged through the shelves. "Here we are!" he cried as he flourished a piece of paper from the bottom shelf. "You have a choice of one of these pokemon," he told here as he handed her the piece of paper.

But Kairi wasn't listening. She noticed the Dusclops. A ghost Pokemon,"Ah! A ghost type!" She screamed and jumped into the other room to hide. She hide under a DESK. Kairi was shaking with fear over the Dusclops. She had always been very scared of ghost Pokemon since she was 5 years old. When she was 5 a Gengar had scared her out of her mind with terror. Ever since that day she's been scared whenever she's come face to face with ghost types. So whenever she saw them she'd freak out like what she's doing now. But she had to come out sometime. Not only to get her Pokemon but because she had a bad head ingury that could get worse if it wasn't taken care of. Kairi stayed under the bed rolled up in a ball shaking with fear while her head was still pounding painfully.

Dimitri exhaled in irritation, pinching the bridge of his nose. Did she EVER just SHUT UP?!?!?!? Xavier gave him a look. "Help her out, okay?" Dimitri scowled back at him. "How can I help when I don't even know what's wrong? And why should I?" Xavier crossed his arms, shaking his head disapprovingly. "Taking that she was staring at Win when she freaked out, she's probably scared of Dusclops or ghost pokemon or something. As for why..." he paused. "I'll let you come up with your own reason for that."

Dimitri sighed again, getting up from his leaning position on the wall to help her. Not because she was scared and wanted to help, or even because Xavier had asked him, but the girl seemed much more quiet when she was calmer. Not to mention, the sooner she got out of here, the sooner he could go back to sleep, and she wasn't going to get out of there unless she had her first pokemon, and and she couldn't get her first pokemon until she wasn't scared anymore. Therefore, he had to help her to get her out of there.

Dimitri crouched down by the desk. "Hey, Win is really nice, okay?" He beckoned Win a bit closer, and the pokemon squatted down a few feet behind her master. She grinned playfully, extending a friendly hand in greeting.

"But...but it's a ghost Pokemon. I'm scared of ghost Pokemon. I...I...." Kairi blacked out again. Her head was pretty bad and her clothes were a mess covered in mud. A lot had happened to Kairi today. She needed help and fast. Just then a Pikachu came out from the other room,"Pika?" It said staring at the girl. It walked over to Kairi and tapped her on the head,"Pi?" Pikachu noticed that Kairi was hurt. It noticed the big bump on her head. Pikachu pointed it out to Xavier,"Pikachu."

((OOC: I figured it would be ok to control Pikachu before I got it since that's the Pokemon I'm picking as my starter anyway.))

((Actually, no, it is my job to control the pokemon until after the Professor or one of the Lab Aides officially hands off the pokemon to you, so we can designate the pokemon's personality. However, I will let that one post slide and just take over Pikachu from here on out.))

Xavier nodded. "Yes, I saw the bump." The Pikachu gave him a reproaching look, as if to say, "Then you should have taken care of it at first!" Xavier glared back playfully at it. "Well, you shouldn't leave the room! You weren't supposed to!" The Pikachu stuck out it's tongue, and turned it's back, waggling it's tail, meaning to make fun of him slightly. After all, it did have a slightly naughty nature. However, instead of setting Xavier off like it had planned, Xavier just giggled. The Pikachu harrumphed and stalked off. It had meant to upset Xavier, but, of course, Xavier and Dimitri looked exactly alike, so it was rather difficult to tell them apart.

Xavier grabbed one of Kairi's feet and dragged her out from under the table. Win sat down next to her, completely relaxed and ignoring her, watching as her master's brother scurried around the lab to find an icepack.

"Here!" he finally pulled out a blue plastic bottle, which had been filled with water some time ago and stuck in the freezer. He walked back over to Kairi and handed the frozen mass to Win, who, slowly, as not to scare her, reached up and gently rested the pack of ice on the bump on the girl's head.

About an hour later Kairi was feeling better. She woke up and went into the other room, and got a change of clean clothes on. She then cleaned the mud off of her. "Now about my first Pokemon," she said after getting cleaned up. She walked out back into the main room almost tripping over a Pikachu,"Oh! I'm so sorry!" Kairi explainned to the Pikachu,"Oh! A Pikachu. Very nice to meet you. My name is Kairi," she said shaking hands with the Pikachu. Kairi turned around to Xavier,"I'd like to start my journey with this Pikachu if that's ok," Kairi said as she turned back to the Pikachu and grinned happily at it. She paid no attention to the Dusclops that was still in the room.

Xavier turned to Dimitri, pulling his fist down from high in the air as if to symbolize victory, and mouthing, "Score!" Even Dimitri looked a bit relieved. The Pikachu had caused the two of them quite a bit of trouble, from escape attempts to gluing Smog's wings together. (They had found the Murkrow, and she was now sitting contentedly on Dimitri's shoulder.)

However, Xavier realized something. The trainer wouldn't know about the pokemon's difficult nature, would she? Ignoring frantic signs from Dimitri not to do it, Xavier turned around. "Are you sure? That pokemon tends to have a rather naughty nature and is always pulling tricks. It's rather difficult to control. Do you really want it? If so, then there is another Lab Aide outside who will give you a few items you might need. If not...well, we have several other pokemon in the lab, currently..."

"Yea, I'm sure. After all Pikachu is my favorite Pokemon. Always has been," shows him pictures that she's drew of Pikachus on paper. "And look at this," she said. She pulled a pair of Pikachu pajamas out of her bag. Kairi grinned as she put them back up. She looked down at Pikachu noticing it was a girl,"How would you like a nickname? How about Naomi? It was the name of my grandma who passed away last year," Kairi said as she picked her up holding her in her arms. "Pika!" The Pikachu nodded agreeing. This girl was pretty nice. Naomi figured she could really get along with her,"Chu." She grinned.

Xavier laughed a little. Oh, how she reminded him of his younger cousin! Always drawing pictures of Sneasel (and other pokemon, of course, but that wasn't the point). She also always had that Sneasel plushie with her...but, he supposed she didn't love Sneasel, and it was something about Snorunt...Oh well. Not important. He shrugged it off.

Dimitri's eyes widened when he heard the Pikachu's nickname, and he grinned slightly. Xavier went from giggling to chuckling to all out roaring with laughter. Naomi! Speak of the devil! Or think, he supposed. After all, how could he forget his little cousin? Even Dimitri inclined his head slightly, making a sound in the back of his throat that could have been a slight laugh. Yes, that one. The insanely cheerful one. Of course, he preferred her quiet brother, but at least she was calmer than Xavier. He shook his head to rid himself of the thought. If this is what I've got, then make the best of it, he thought to himself.

Finally, after Xavier stopped laughing, he pointed Kairi out the door. "Outside, there should be another Aide who will give you a few items that you will need on your journey." Finally, Win looked up from...Well, whatever she was doing to wave and give Kairi that same, cheerful smile.

"Alright! Come on Naomi let's go," Kairi told her. "Pika!" Naomi repiled. She stuck her tongue out at Xavier one more time before following Kairi out the door. Just as Kairi and Naomi were walking out the door though she bumped into the aide she was told about,"Sorry," Kairi said helping the aide up onto there feet.

The aide's eyes widened as he accepted her hand to help her up. "S-s-sorry." He blushed, completely embarrassed and shy. Then, he looked at the Pikachu, and realized something. "O-oh! Y-you must be the n-new trainer!" He bowed slightly. "P-please forgive me, I d-didn't know!" Quickly, he almost dropped the bag at her feet, tripping and running away in his attempt to get into the lab. "Sorry!" he called back, going to report to Xavier and Dimitri.]

Since it is getting kinda late want to wait until tomorrow to leave?" Kairi asked Naomi. "Pika!" Naomi answered which meant,"Sure!" The two then headed for Kairi's home.
